Michael Blinick

Michael is a litigator.  He brings an energetic yet reasoned approach to his litigation practice.  While a primary aspect of his practice involves the defence of personal injury claims, Michael has varied experience and is routinely retained to represent companies with varied risks or who seek to recover for losses caused by others.  He has represented clients at the Court of Appeal, Superior Court of Justice, Ontario Provincial Court, in private arbitration and at various administrative tribunals. 

Michael graduated from Queens University in 2008 and was called to the Bar in 2009.  Before this Michael graduated from the Kinesiology Program at McMaster University and worked in a physiotherapy clinic.  Since then, he has been assisting risk managers, insurers and business owners and operators manage their litigation risk in a cost-effective manner.  He is particularly interested in emerging industries and assisting companies identifying risks and developing protocols to minimize the future risk of litigation.

When not working, Michael enjoys being with his family or playing in team sports.  


CHARLES W. Clowdis, JR.

Mr. Clowdis has nearly five decades of experience in transportation, logistics, motor carrier transportation, air freight/cargo, railroad operations/admin/marketing, fleet operations, rates & services agreements, supply chain design and management. He served as Senior Vice President of Marketing at TRANSCON, Inc., Sr. Vice President at TNT North America, and held executive positions at Sun (Oil) Carriers, Inc. and The Mason & Dixon Lines, Inc. He established his independent consulting practice in 1988 and has served as Executive Consultant since 1992 to Ernst & Young LLP, and since 2001, to KPMG and CSC Consultancies.

He joined Global Insight, Inc. in June 2008, (September 18, 2008 –IHS Global Insight); (July 12, 2016: IHS Markit Ltd.), in Lexington, MA, as Managing Director- North American Trade & Transportation. In 2014 he was appointed Managing Director-Global Transportation, IHS Economics & Country Risk sector. He was responsible for Transportation Consulting Services for private and public-sector transport entities, service providers and buyers as well as governmental agencies and regulators. This sector was comprised of railroads, motor carriers, private fleets, barge lines, air cargo service providers, steamship lines, Third Party Logistics service providers, and select other domestic transport modes; as well as Federal, State and Local transport regulators, airports; as well as Shippers and Receivers of both international and domestic cargo. In early 2013, he was asked to assume responsibility for re-engineering and production of the respected annual Transearch© commodity flow data research project. He left IHS Markit on October 27, 2017.

In NOVEMBER 2017, Clowdis formed Trans-Logistics Group, Inc. (TLG) with a group of select, experienced subject matter experts and became Managing Director of the firm. TLG is a consultancy specializing in transportation, logistics, and Supply Chain engagements. In his new role, Clowdis will lead TLG’s litigation support services as an expert opinion witness on a select basis to Attorneys and Law firms in the United States and Canada, involving transportation entities’ administrative, sales & marketing, operations and contractual issues/disputes.

Elias DemanGos

He is actively involved with the Hellenic Home of the Aged, a non-profit organization which is dedicated to providing exceptional quality care and services to the seniors in our community, The Country Day School Alumni Association where he sits on the Board and The Hellenic Heritage Foundation where he also sits on the Board.

Nicholas G. Evans

Dr. Nicholas G. Evans is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where he conducts research on national security and emerging technologies. His work on “dual-use research” in the life sciences is published in major US and international journals in philosophy, public policy, and the life sciences, and his work on dual-use neuroscience will be published by Routledge in 2019. In 2017, Dr. Evans was awarded funding from the National Science Foundations to examine the ethical issues, including cybersecurity challenges, of autonomous vehicles.

Dr. Evans also maintains an active research program on the ethics of infectious disease, with a focus on clinical and public health decision making during disease pandemics. Most recently, he has published on the health security impact of the 2013-2015 Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreak in Biological Threats in the 21 st Century (ed. Lentzos). His 2016 edited volume, Ebola’s Message: Public Health and Medicine in the 21st Century focuses on the clinical, political, and bioethical impact of EVD, and received favourable reviews in Nature.

Prior to his appointment at the University of Massachusetts, Dr. Evans completed postdoctoral work in medical ethics and health policy at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2015, he held an Emerging Leaders in Biosecurity Fellowship at the UPMC Center for Health Security, Baltimore. Dr. Evans has conducted research at the Monash Bioethics Centre, The Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics, Australian Defence Force Academy, and the University of Exeter. He has also served as a policy officer with the Australian Department of Health and Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration.

John K. Fiorilla

Mr. Fiorilla focuses his practice in the railroad industry and helping to create and present railroad management policy and positions with diversified management and litigation experience as both house counsel and local counsel for Class I and Short Line Railroads. He has specific experience in presenting finance, real estate, operations, engineering, government affairs, and customer service positions. John also served as a Captain in the Transportation Corps, U.S. Army Reserve from 1971-1986.


Jason Gauthier

Jason Gauthier was elected to Council of Missanabie Cree First Nation in August of 2010, and held the whole earth portfolio (Lands and Resources) and went on to be elected as the Chief of Missanabie Cree First Nation in 2013 and Re-elected in 2016.

Lawrence Herman

Lawrence L. Herman is a graduate of the the University of Saskatchewan (B.A., 1966) and the University of Toronto Law Faculty (1969).

After being called to the Bar in 1970, he served in the Canadian Foreign Service in the 1970’s in a variety of posts, at the United Nations in Geneva and in Ottawa, representing Canada in numerous international conferences and meetings, including the GATT, OECD and the UN Conference on the Law of the Sea. Prior leaving the External Affairs Department in 1980, he was the head of the Department’s Economic and Treaty Law Section in the Legal Bureau.

In private law practice, Mr. Herman appeared on behalf of Canada in the International Court of Justice in the Gulf of Maine boundary case in 1984.

For many years, he has concentrated his legal practice on international trade and business transactions, representing private sector clients, governments and international agencies, dealing particularly with the GATT/WTO, FTA and NAFTA (where he acts as counsel before dispute-resolution bodies).

He regularly represents clients at the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT), in the courts and before Parliamentary committees.

Mr. Herman is Chair of the CITT’s National Advisory Committee and a member of the Trade Expert Advisory Council of the Canadian Department of International Trade. He had been a member of the Market Access Advisory Group (MAAG) of the  International Trade Department providing advice on business issues in the WTO Doha Round negotiations.

He has been a member the Executive Board of the Canada-US Law Institute since 2009.

Mr. Herman was on the Council of the International Bar Association’s Energy Section for many years and served as chair of the Trade Policy Committee of the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters and a member of the International Affairs Committee of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and several other business and government trade policy organizations.

From 1990-1993, he was the Chairman of the Canada-Taiwan Business Association.

In 2007, he was appointed Director, Task Force on Trade and Investment Rules of the World Energy Council, London, UK.

He was named a Senior Fellow of the C.D. Howe Institute in 2011 and sits on the International Economic Policy Council and the National Policy Council of that well-respected think-tank .

Lawrence Herman has been recognized as a leading lawyer by the Lexpert/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada, the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, the Lexpert Guide to the Leading US/Canada Cross-Border Litigation Lawyers in CanadaBest Lawyers in Canada and Chambers Global.

Lexpert bestowed him with its Zenith Award in 2012 for his contributions to the field of international trade law. In March 2017, he received the Canada-US Law Institute’s Sidney Picker Award for his contributions to the work of that organization.

Mr. Herman regularly  lectures on international law at Canadian law schools and business faculties. He was the CUSLI Distinguished Lecturer at Western University Law School in November 2016.

As a sometime journalist, he was op-ed columnist on international trade and business for the Financial Post (Toronto) from 1993 to 1998 and contribute frequently to The Globe and Mail and other newspapers.

Together with numerous articles in legal and business journals, Lawrence Herman has written several text books: Canadian Trade Remedy Law & Practice (1997), Canadian Trade Law (2008) and, most recently, Export and Import Controls, Sanctions and Other Trade Restrictions (2010).

Among other non-professional activities, he has served on the boards of Heritage Toronto, the Canadian Institute of International Affairs and Jazz.FM.91, a public radio station in Toronto.  Currently, he is Chair of the Toronto Summer Music Festival and a board member of the Council for Business and the Arts, a not-for-profit corporation advocating closer ties between Canadian performing arts organizations and the private sector.

Captain John Hosty

Captain John Hosty is National Director, Marine Services at CalimsPro Canada.

As National Director, Marine Services, John oversees ClaimsPro’s national team of marine surveyors and adjusters, ensuring continued growth of this business unit.

John is a qualified Master Mariner and has sailed in all ranks – up to Captain – on a wide variety of merchant vessels including general cargo, LPG, LNG, chemical tankers and VLCCs. He joins ClaimsPro after serving as CEO at a North American marine surveying and consulting company. Prior to that, he was Director, Marine Programs, for an international independent adjusting firm. John is a senior marine surveyor, with a broad experience including general claims, pleasure craft, project cargo and risk control.

John has significant technical expertise in the hazardous materials and environmental response sectors. He holds a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) designation and a Class 1 Master Mariner Foreign Going designation from Liverpool’s John Moores University.

Bill Kerrigan

Bill Kerrigan is Vice President, Logistics, Auto Division  at SSA Marine in Charleston, SC USA.

Mr. Kerrigan joined SSA Marine’s Auto Division in 2015 after directing his own consulting company since 2000. SSA Marine operates terminals and provides stevedoring and vehicle logistics services to all the major OEMs. In 2017, SSA handled over 2 million vehicles in the US; Canada; and Mexico.

Mr. Kerrigan has over 38 years of experience in the transportation industry, including executive positions with a major ocean carrier and terminal operator.
KGI LLC was created to provide transportation logistics consulting services to the automotive and RoRo industries. KGI LLC’s consulting practice encompassed the broad spectrum of supply chain management, including finished vehicles, intermodal container flows, and parts distribution. These services included the design and implementation of strategic studies and analysis in the areas of marketing and sales, information technology, intermodal planning,
port selection, terminal and vessel operations.

Prior to establishing KGI, LLC, Mr. Kerrigan directed sales and marketing activities to the auto manufacturers; acted as an operational liaison for the ocean carriers and vehicle processing centers; and managed the intermodal relationships with the Class I railroads and haulaway carriers.

Mr. Kerrigan received his BA in political science from Georgetown University in 1979.

He is a long-standing member of the United States Propeller Club and the National Defense Transportation Association. He resides in Charleston, South Carolina with his wife and four children.


Robert Lande

Mr. Lande is President of FXCM, a foreign exchange brokerage firm. Formerly, he was managing partner and Chief Operating Officer of Riveredge Capital Partners LLC. Prior to Riveredge Capital, Mr. Lande worked for over 16 years within the BCE/Bell Canada group where his last position was Chief Financial Officer of Telecom Américas Ltd., a joint venture between Bell Canada International, AT&T (then SBC Communications) and America Movil. Mr. Lande is chartered financial analyst and holds an M.B.A. from the John Molson School of Business and a B.A. in Economics from McGill University. Mr. Lande was on the Board of Paladin Labs from 1995 to 2014.

Mike Millian

Mike grew up on a beef farm in rural Southwestern Ontario in Huron County and began his career in the Trucking Industry in 1990 at the age of 18.

Mike spent three years working for a local carrier Hauling Livestock and bulk agriculture products.

At the age of 21 Mike went to work for a long Haul Refrigerated and general freight carrier and spent 5 years hauling freight in all 48 US Mainland States and 6 Canadian Provinces.

The Carrier then opened a Certified Driver Training School in 1998 and Mike came off the road to become one of the Schools First Certified Driver Trainers. In 2000 Mike Transitioned into Safety and Compliance for the Fleet, while still working part time as a Trainer for the School.

In 2002 Mike moved over to a Private Fleet and became the Safety, Compliance, Maintenance and Training manager for the Hensall District Co-operative’s Commercial Trucking Fleet. Mike spent the next 12.5 years with Hensall and oversaw the Fleets as it grew from 40 Trucks in 2002 to over 160 in 2015.

In January of 2015 Mike moved into the Trucking Association business and was named the President of the Private Motor Truck Council of Canada, where he remains in his current role.

Andrea MORLEY

Andrea is the lead Nutritionist & Health Coach with Healthy Trucker, where she educates and motivates drivers and office staff across the industry to improve their health through simple, consistent changes in their diet and exercise routines.

She has a BASc Hon. Degree in Human Nutrition from the University of Guelph, and is passionate about wellness and helping others reach their goals.

At Healthy Trucker, she coordinates and administers various health programs and interactive challenges in order to provide wellness education and resources to the industry.

Over the past four and a half years, she has coached hundreds of drivers and staff to lose thousands of pounds, reduce the need for medication, improve their energy, and regain their health.

Heiner Murmann

Heiner has more than 20 years experience in global logistics across the Americas, Europe and Asia. Heiner spent most of his career at DB Schenker, one the of the top three global logistics companies with revenues over 15 billion Euros. He was a member of the Board of Management, responsible for Air and Ocean Freight. Prior to that, he was CEO for the Americas. During his tenure, he focused on delivering high-value customer solutions, transformation & repositioning operations, and mergers & acquisitions. As CEO of Orkestra, his vision is to leverage technology and innovative solutions to achieve high growth in the B2B global supply chain and logistics space.

Heiner will be speaking on "Trends in Global Logistics" at this year's Conference.

Marcel E. Pouliot

Mr. Pouliot is currently Vice-President Industry & Regulatory Affairs with Trimac Transportation which is one of the largest providers of bulk trucking services in North America. Marcel held several senior positions including Operations, Industrial Services (fleet maintenance), Purchasing, Fleet Innovation, and Safety. In his current role, he acts as the liaison between Trimac and various governmental bodies at the federal, state and provincial levels in Canada and the United States, as well as representing Trimac with industry associations. 

His interest and progressive vision related to "Health and Safety" and “Transportation” have been well expressed beyond his work environment. He was a member on the Board of Directors for the Transportation Health and Safety Association of Ontario (THSAO) and on the Board of Director of the Ontario Trucking Association (OTA). He is currently on the Board of Minerva Canada and on the AMTA Partners in Compliance Advisory Council. He also represents Trimac on several Trucking OEM Customer Councils.

His educational background encompasses a degree in Mechanical Engineering from l’ Université Laval, Quebec City and an MBA from the University of Calgary. His prior experience in construction with Peter Kiewit Sons, along with his ongoing managerial leadership in transportation across Canada and the United States have contributed to his in-depth expertise in the domain.

Marcel recently relocated to Calgary, Alberta to join the Trimac senior team after two decades in Ontario & Quebec. With his family, he enjoys travelling, outdoors activities and giving back to the community by volunteering.

T. Michael Riggs

T. Michael Riggs is the CEO of Jack Cooper Holdings. Mr. Riggs acquired the company in 2009. Under his leadership, Jack Cooper has grown to become one of the largest car haul companies in North America with over 3,500 employees. Mr. Riggs is the largest stakeholder, controlling over 90% of Jack Cooper Holdings outstanding voting securities. He has over 25 years of experience in the trucking industry, and another 15 years of prior executive experience within manufacturing companies. Mr. Riggs is a member of the Executive Committee of the American Trucking Association, and Chairman of the Auto Carriers Conference. In 2013, Ernst & Young awarded Mr. Riggs the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the Midwest Region. He was also awarded the Global Outstanding Achievement Award in 2015 by Automotive Supply Chain Magazine. He received a BS in Business from the General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1979. He and his wife of 42 years have three daughters and six grandchildren and line in Atlanta, Georgia.


Hank Seaton

Henry E. Seaton is a graduate of Duke University and Vanderbilt School of Law. He has practiced law for 44 years with the Law Office of Seaton & Husk, LP in the Washington D.C. area representing motor carriers and brokers. The firm specializes in freight claims, freight charge collection, contracting issues, carrier representation before the FMCSA and bankruptcy issues.

He serves as counsel for the National Association of Small Trucking Companies, the Air & Expedited Motor Carriers Association, The Expedite Alliance of North America, the Tennessee Motor Coach Association, the American Home Furnishings Alliance and the Auto Haulers Association of America.

Mr. Seaton is a member of the Conference of Freight Counsel. He also serves as Co-Chair of the Transportation Lawyers Association Federal Regulatory Practice Committee and is a frequent speaker and lecturer regarding cargo claims, freight charges, contracting and risk/insurance issues affecting carriers and brokers.

Mr. Seaton serves on the Editorial Board for the Airforwarders Association Quarterly Magazine. He published Rules of the Road: A Practical Guide to Legal
Issues in Truck Transportation (2016) which is available for purchase at www.transportationlaw.net.

In 2014, Mr. Seaton was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Transportation Lawyers Association.

DR. Shafiq Qaadri, MD, HBA, MPP

Dr. Qaadri is a strong advocate of quality Public Healthcare, Education, Diversity and a Just Society. He was first elected to the Ontario Legislature in 2003. He has served as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Children's Services. In 2006 he was appointed Parliamentary Assistant to Ontario's first Minister of Health Promotion.

On October 10, 2007, Dr. Qaadri was re-elected to his second term in the Ontario Provincial Parliament, and re-elected again to his third term in October 2011.  He currently serves as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Government Services.

Dr. Qaadri graduated from Upper Canada College in 1982, and from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1988. During his academic career, he won several scholarships and awards, including an English-Speaking Union Essay Prize to Oxford University, a Canadian National Debating Championship, a Medical Research Council Scholarship in Clinical Neurosurgery, and a Senator Thompson Fellowship to the University of Pennsylvania.

As a physician, the multilingual Dr. Qaadri has published and presented more than 700 articles on a variety of medical topics. He has appeared on more than 1000 radio and television shows.

Dr. Qaadri and his wife have two children.

He is honoured to be the Member of Provincial Parliament serving the people of Etobicoke North, for whom he is an eloquent and fierce advocate.

Olga Torres

Olga Torres is the Managing Member of Torres Law, PLLC. Ms. Torres concentrates her practice in the areas of customs and international trade law, anti-corruption compliance, and industrial security matters.

In the area of U.S. export control, Ms. Torres counsels clients on compliance with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and the various embargo and sanctions programs administered by the Office of Foreign Asset Controls (OFAC). She regularly represents clients before the U.S. Department of State Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC), U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), and the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Ms. Torres is a frequent speaker and moderator. She has lectured on export controls and international trade for organizations, universities and government agencies in different countries, including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Mexico, Thailand, France, and Canada.

She was previously an attorney in the International & Cross Border Transactions group at Holland & Knight LLP in Washington, D.C.

Steve Tripp

Steve started his career in Logistics at Ford and later moved to Chrysler, now Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). At FCA he held numerous senior level positions in Logistics and Supply Chain heading departments such as Assembly Production Control and Material Handling Engineering.

In the Logistics area Steve has led FCA’s Inbound (Parts) network, International Logistics network and was the Head of Worldwide Vehicle Transportation. In those positions he was responsible for all aspects of the networks – network design, transportation procurement and network operations. He has significant experience dealing with all modes of transportation including rail, truck, ocean, LTL and parcel.

He has also held leadership positions in the Automotive Logistics industry as Chair of the Reload Committee in the Automotive Industry Logistics Steering Committee (AILSC) and Chair of the AILSC Executive Committee. He is a frequent speaker at Automotive Logistics conferences and has presented at the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), rail shipper conferences (Southeast Association of Rail Shippers), ILOS Forum Internacional and other venues. Steve is now Vice President of Global Strategy and Execution at ICL Systems.

Carole McAfee Wallace

Carole McAfee Wallace is counsel with Fernandes Hearn LLP, a Toronto based law firm that specializes in transportation.

Carole represents both domestic and international trucking and bus companies on a wide range of transportation matters including regulatory compliance, defence of provincial offences, contract drafting and commercial litigation.

Carole also practises employment law, advising both federally and provincially regulated employers in Canada, and employers internationally, on compliance with employment standards, the management of human rights issues, including the duty to accommodate, and on occupational health and safety compliance including responding to workplace harassment complaints. She also drafts employment contracts, independent-contractor agreements, non-disclosure, non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, workplace policies, procedures and employee handbooks.  Carole also assists her clients with the preparation of termination packages, and responding to wrongful dismissal claims, unjust dismissal complaints, and human rights applications.

She appears on her clients’ behalf before the Ontario Court of Justice, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Ontario Highway Transport Board, the Licence Appeal Tribunal, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.
